I have fallen in love with life all over again by looking through the lens of a new culture. When I first arrived in Greece, my mind automatically started to compare and notice “Oh, they do this differently here.” I was thrust completely outside of my comfort zone into a world where life was lived in a way I had never experienced before.
Things are very slowed down. The food is fresh and grown on the island – each meal is an event where people take time to appreciate what they choose to nourish themselves with. No one is in a hurry to go anywhere, or in a rush to always be doing the next thing. The beaches are topless and the women walk around comfortable in their own skin with a confidence that radiates like the sun.
I had become accustomed to life in California. The borders of my perspective didn’t extend very far. I had grown comfortable with life being a certain way, when in reality, there are a million different ways to live. No one way is the “right” way. Travel reignites a fire within me to see places and to understand simply through the art of being.
Life will undo your certainty entirely – that is certain. Therefore the moment you become set in your beliefs and stop questioning everything, the ground will shake underneath you. For that is how you grow. You evolve by continually throwing yourself out of the nest. Do not fear being a small fish in a big pond, for you are a part of the pond itself.
