Morocco was one of the most diverse places that I have experienced. Located in Africa, it is a place for artists and innovators. Creativity drips out of every inch of the place from the architecture of the buildings to the tasty food. It was colonized by the French, but is now an Islamic country making for a unique cultural mix. Here are some of the highlights….
Riad’s are an important part of Moroccan culture. This place is run by kindest couple and has become social media famous for its stunning courtyard.
There is a rooftop view of the city where we watched the sunset and sipped on the best mint tea I have ever had. It is located right in Marrakech, only a few minutes away from the marketplace.
You can truly feel the heart or Moroccan culture in the way that Alice designed it. Stay here for the warm vibes, caring staff, beautiful decor, and central location. This place automatically felt like home, and you can feel the history in every inch of it.
Enjoy the stunning Four Seasons in Marrakech. It is reliably impressive in its design and top notch facilities. Come for some rooftop breakfast and tea, then head to the relaxing poolside and soak up the sun. They also have a state of the art gym that we loved!
If you are in Morocco, you are going to want to bring some incredible pieces back since it is nearly triple the amount of cost back home. The Marrakech Medina is the best place to pick up some rare pieces…if you know where to go! Go to the Mustapha Blaoui and see a man named Aziz. He will give you the best deals!
Be prepared to bargain hard in the marketplace. It is part of the culture to negotiate. In terms of what to wear ladies, it is not very strict on clothing, but if you want to avoid being catcalled excessively it’s smart and respectful to dress more modestly.
If you want to see Moroccan architecture at its finest, I highly recommend you go to the Royal Mansour. Created for and by His Majesty the King of Morocco, the place is true to its name. If you are looking for a day of relaxation, this is the place to be. We were blown away by how carefully decorated every inch of this place was. The spa treatments are probably the best that you will ever have. Bring your camera when you go!
Villa Anouk is an entirely different realm. Located in Essaouira, it is filled with all of the charm and grace you can imagine, which is a complete reflection of Anouk, the woman who runs it. Rather than a hotel, staying here is like staying at a home away from home. We were instantly comforted the moment we arrived, and she has two of the sweetest matching dogs on earth.
Anouk came from the fashion industry in New York and followed her dream of creating her own place all the way to Morocco. All of the furniture has her love in it and much of it was handmade directly by her. She is an encyclopedia for all of the best shopping and restaurants in Morocco.
Go see the virgin beaches while you are in Essaouira. You will run into all sorts of wildlife on the way over. These fluffy guys escorted us all the way there!
I have never seen a more uniquely decorated place in my life than Peacock Pavilions. The woman who owns it, Maryam, carefully crafted every inch of it with art she picked up from all over the world. Enjoy the outdoor movie theater under the Moroccan stars and watch them twinkle over the water.
Take a walk through the garden and smell all of the fresh fruits and plants. Being surrounded by nature is deeply comforting for me. Peacock is located 20 minutes outside of Marrakech and is an oasis from the chaos of the city. It is so serene and quiet that we were able to slow down, and literally stop to smell the roses.
Make sure you check out Maryams Instagram page (@mmontagueliving and @peacockpavilionshotel) to keep up with all of the incredible humanitarian work she does. The magic of this hotel is only a fraction of the creativity and power this woman has!
